New fact sheets
To assist both lawyers and their clients navigate their way through potential areas of dispute or misunderstanding, the Legal Profession Board has developed a new suite of fact sheets. They include –
For consumers of legal services:

- File ownership and handling
- Liens (a lien is a lawyer’s right to keep your file until their account has been paid)
- Avoiding complaints
- Practical guide for dealing with complaints (our top tips)
- Dealing with less serious complaints – section 456
In addition, the Board has developed an easy reference to offence provisions under the Legal Profession Act 2007.
